Submission process:
1. Complete the entry form, including your bio/resume and artist statement.
2. Upload entries (a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20) in the form of low-resolution JPEG images and fill out caption information, including date, title, medium, and description of the work. (If an applicant is selected, hi-res images must be available for inclusion in the September print feature.)

The jury panel votes: May 1-8, 2023
Selected artists will be notified by Friday, May 12, 2023.

Charleston magazine is partnering with Charleston Arts Festival and Redux Contemporary Art Center to present “Under the Radar,” Charleston magazine’s third competition for cutting-edge, emerging artists in the Lowcountry. The winners will be featured in Charleston magazine’s September 2023 issue and exhibited at Redux Contemporary Art Center from September 22 to November 4, 2023. A People’s Choice award will be selected by public vote on the charlestonmag.com web feature and announced at an event at Redux in October.

Open to all artists ages 18 and above who have resided in the Tricounty area (Charleston, Berkeley, Dorchester) for at least two years, have never had a major local solo exhibition, and work in at least one of the following disciplines: installation, painting, sculpture, works of paper, printmaking, photography, digitally created work, and mixed media. All work submitted must be original and completed within the past two years. All works selected for exhibition must be from this body of work.

All applications must be submitted online. No applications will be accepted in person.

You must submit a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 images of your artwork in the form of low-resolution JPEG images.

All submitted photographs must be in digital format. Only online entries will be eligible. No print or film submissions will be accepted for entry into this contest. All digital files must be 6 megabytes or smaller, in JPEG or .jpg format, and at least 1,600 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,600 pixels tall (if a vertical image). The photographers of the images selected as finalists will be asked to provide the RAW or original camera file (minimum 3,000 pixels wide).

Entrants grant to Charleston magazine the right to use and publish their name and photograph in print and online, including websites and social media for @charlestonmag and @verycharleston. The contest and all of the related pages, contents, and code are copyright of Charleston magazine. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks, or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.
